Tutorial to Modify CAB file.
There sure isn't much software available for the Sigmarion III, or the Nexio for that matter. There's much more software available for the Jornada 720 and 728. This tutorial will show you how to modify an HPC2000 program for installation on your Sigmarion. This procedure works on many, but not all programs. If you're not sure, try it.
Step 1) Download the software package for the HPC 2000 (first choice) or the HPC Pro (2nd Choice), for the ARM processor. For our example we are going to download HPC Notepad from here: http://www.mobilecubed.com/apps/hpcnotepad.html
Step 2) Normally you would install this application to the Jornada 72x, and then look on the PC in c:\program files\Microsoft ActiveSync for the CAB file. We got lucky with this program, the CAB file in included right in the zip file. So go ahead and unzip it...
Step 3) Get your hands on a Hex editor. I use WinHex available here... http://www.geocities.com/citrusserver2/winhex-e.zip
Step 4) Open up Win Hex, and then File->Open->hpcnotepad.Arm 1100(4K) v3.00.CAB
Step 5) From the Search menu select "Find Hex Values" and type in 110A, and then OK.
Step 6) Your cursor now rests on the first Occurance of 11 0A. We are going to change this to 20 07. Just type in 20 07.
Step 7) Save the file.
Step 8) Right click the file, and select properties. Turn on the read only box.
Step 9) Copy the CAB file to the Sigmarion III
Step 10) Double click the CAB file on the Sigmarion III, and accept the default installation directory
Step 11) Click on Yes (the first button with the "Y" in it) for all remaining prompts
Step 12) Now your file is installing
All done...
So lets run it...
Go to Start->Programs->HPCNotepad
And let's start typing
That's it... you've just edited a CAB file for the HPC2000 and installed it on the Sigmarion.
Variations:
Sometimes you'll have to copy over an entire directory of files onto the Sigmairon III to get the CAB file to load properly.
